Biker Binge – Part 1: The Movies

Filed Under (General) by Jamie Alexander on 02-03-2010

For the past few weeks I’ve been on a biker binge watching tons of classic biker films.
Some good some bad and some really bad.

First up, The Wild One with Marlon Brando
I figure this was ground breaking in its day, seems like everyone loved it, what was cool is how Sonny Barger liked Chino the bad guy better. I saw a fag picture of Marlon Brando on the net once, so I find it hard seeing him as this hard ass. Definitely worth a watch its like grade 1the foundation on which everything else is built on for biker flicks.

Then there is, Born losers(I dunno if this list is gonna be chronological), this was total crap somehow it reminded me of Scooby doo.

Then is Easy rider, which i used to really dig, but reading Sonny’s book where he calls him a prissy boy has kinda ruined it. I’m trying to look past that though, the bike he rides is like super awesome and old Peter Fonda is a cool cat and Jack Nicholson makes any movie good. This movie is also like a must see for any bike lover

Electra glide in Blue was sold as easy rider for cops, I tried to watch this but these guys look seriously gay in their cop leathers and all clean cut, it was ok nothing to write home about though.

Wild angels I couldn’t do, watching Peter Fonda be cool in easy rider was great but you can only do it once, he looks almost the same in this, and knowing they also ripped off the Hells angels with “wild angels”.

Hells angels on wheels was cool because it had some real hells angels in it plus was ok’d by them and like i mentioned earlier anything with Jack Nicholson in is great.

Hells Angels forever is a documentary which gives you a glimpse into the hells angels, it seems to mainly focus on the new York chapter, it would have been nice to see some of the Oakland guys, you do see Sonny though on TV footage, There is one big ass hairy dude who is super cool, nice bikes some good music and just plain old bike riding which is what its all about.

Roadside prophet – I couldn’t watch this it was so badly acted I couldn’t handle it.

Beyond The Law – Also was rejected, who can take Charlie Sheen seriously

Hell Ride was super rad, all the guys are bad ass, its sponsored by Quentin Tarantino its got Dennis hopper in plus a few other of the usual bad asses in, The main guy Larry Bishop over does his character but it actually works, well at least for me.

And finally my ultimate movie Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man
This has got to be one of the best movies ever, Mickey Rourke(who i think regretted this movie) is legendary, his line “its better to be dead and cool than alive and uncool” is one of the best lines. And they kill a jap bike which works for me.

Bronson

Filed Under (General) by Jamie Alexander on 11-01-2010

I bought Charles Bronson’s autobiography a while ago, it kind of just stood out at exclusive books I didn’t know much about it.

I really enjoyed it and actually considered writing to the guy in prison.

Since reading the book I have been really looking forward to the movie which I saw on the week end.

It wasn’t what I expected at all, I thought it would be a factual portrayal. However I think it captured him as a person spot on.

It would have been cool to have watched a movie which captured the stuff he did without the artistic stuff but I guess you get that in the book.

I doubt whether someone would appreciate the movie if they haven’t read his autobiography, they might not get what is being done.

It was great, to weird for my wife a movie that really made me stop and think.

As a person I think he is a serious nut, I think he likes to play the victim and I don’t reckon he should be let out. I do think solitary for 30+- years is a bit harsh, but I suppose what would you do with someone like him.

In some weird way there is something that about him and the way he responds and challenges the things around him that i really get, but i cant put my finger on it.

Almost as though he knows when something is not right but doesn’t know how to respond so he fights also I like the way he takes the piss but in a total extreme way.

Look i don’t know the guy so i could be way off but thats what i get.

Oh and I really really dig Tom Hardy, I think he is a great actor, check out The Take to see what i mean.

Confed Cup final, pics, blurb and flick

Filed Under (General) by Jamie Alexander on 29-06-2009

I was gonna end my Sunday watching Fanboys but was lucky enough to get a free ticket from my chics cousin who works for Fifa.

It was damn cold but great fun.

All in all the security and running of the event was top notch.

However we did park in the suburb across the road from the Troville hotel which was very very very dodgy, and i felt a little scared for my pretty boy ass.

Other highlights was the cool factor to be in a stadium going through the American national anthem, check the vid.

But glad the Brazil won, was getting worried at a point.

Oh and people should get over the whole Vuvela thing, it was actually no issue at all, it was festive and there are even tunes they can play with them.

White people must just get over the issue and moan about relevant issues.

How does CNA sell comics

Filed Under (General) by Jamie Alexander on 16-04-2009

It is complete madness.
If you look at the attached pic(please excuse it as i suck as photographer and the iphone has a crappy camera) which i took at the CNA in Norwood.

They are selling this issue of The amazing spider man for R54.55, its a normal comic a couple of millimeters thick.

Its not the price that gets me it is the lack of respect and complete rip offs that they are that gets me going.

They stick the price right on the cover which devalues the comic and throw it on the shelf with no protection.

Now me as a comic geek will not pay R54 for it because it is ruined by the price tag.

So who buys it.
I cant see a a non comic snob blowing R54 on it.
Maybe its left for rich moms to buy for their kids I dunno but i cant see how they make money.

I ended up buying a mad mag.. cant go wrong there.

Some missed Friday wines

Filed Under (General, Wine/Friday Wine) by Jamie Alexander on 16-04-2009

Plaisir de Merle – 2007 – Merlot
Groot Constantia – 2005 – Merlot

Once again in my professional wine tasting opinion the wine was…. wait for it …. good.

Since then tried another Italian wine and figured, Italians can make Great Cars, shoes, Lasagna but not wine and probably not woman as well.

Some races are good at certain things but not others, i am being a bit racist but I am trying to give credit where credit is due.

For instance i am not anti-Semitic , my best friend is Jewish and i still believe they have the title of the chosen race and i am a strong christian. I stay in a Jewish area and i can confirm that Jewish people have given us lots of great things like circumcision, lots of movies and they are great business people too but they have no dress sense. Only the really rich Jewish people seem to dress well. Trust me go past Norwood mall on a saturday and check it out.
